Alma
A story about seventeen-year old Alma who, while attempting to rebel against her Mexican parents, stays out past her curfew and comes dangerously close to being arrested by the Border Patrol for being undocumented, a fact that is unbeknownst to her.
Alma was filmed in Tucson with a crew comprised of industry professionals, and Media Arts faculty, alumni and students, as well as students from Pima Community College.
Alma premiered in April at the the Humboldt Film Festival where it won The Ledo Matteoli Award for Best Immigrant Story. It will also screen at Cine Las Americas, the Arizona International Film Festival, the Austin Woman's Film, Music, and Literary Festival, the Maryland Film Festival, the University Film and Video Association Conference, and Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival in New York.
